Part 1
The Aderet wrote a lengthy memoir which is unusual for a gadol, especially when he included details of his private life which would not pass muster today (much like R’ Y Emden). In his early teens he co-authored a wide-ranging book on klalei hatalmud with his twin brother.

Part 2
Some interesting personal history with focus on the Aderet’s not getting the position of rav of Riga due to R’ YE Spektor’s role in the selection.

Part 3
Rabbinic positions were bought and sold and rabbis’ (such as R’ Shimon) compensation was unreliable (sometimes they had to refuse to poskn to get paid). R’ Kook was his ideal son-in-law but he couldn’t continue his support and R’ Kook had to find a pulpit.

Part 4
The Aderet’s daughter (R’ Kook’s wife) died young and R’ Kook then married the Aderet’s niece. Some detail on the Aderet’s less than positive travel experiences with German and Galitzian Jews. He then decided to leave Ponovitch for Mir (financial and hashkafic reasons). He had a bad experience with R’ YE Spektor.

Part 5
More from the Aderet’s memoir covering the time period of his decision to leave Ponovitch (after all the tzarot he had there) for Mir and the efforts of the Ponovitch community to keep him from leaving.

Part 6
Finishing up a review of the Aderet’s memoirs. Starts with the move to mir for spiritual and money issues and then to Jerusalem with the succession plan for becoming the chief rabbi. Unfortunately, he died at age 59 and never became chief Rabbi. Includes a number of issues that came up in Jerusalem while he was there.

Part 7
Discussion of some of the Aderet’s experiences and practices in Israel including his views on non-religious Jews and non-Jews, secular education, early krait shma, and dealing with msira/rshaim.
