Audio Roundup 2026:36
by Joel Rich
What is the argument for Jews not having a chiyuv of ntiah to convert non-Jews who don’t observe the mitzvot Bnei Noach to ones who do observe them?
The Yerushalmi peah (1:1) [similarly psikita rabati 23] states that the mitzvot of kibud av (which is chamur) and shiluach haken (which is kal) have the same reward(long life) in order to teach a lesson. Is there a lesson to be learned from the third mitzvah (weights and measures) for which long life is promised? (If not, why not?)

R’ Moshe was acknowledged by all gdolim as the posek hador. Reviews a number of tshuvot including polyethylene tzitzit (not a beged), Ethiopian Jews (not Jews), chalav hacompanies (not for you), reinternment (no), chamar medina (not coke), women’s lib (not from a good place), and kiddush bmakom seudah (not in a pinch can use non-mezonot).

Rabbi Etan Schnall – Bank Interest Payments and a Two Day Yom Tov
Reviews the prohibition of mekachh umemkar and schar shabbat. If I have a three-day yom tov, how can you avoid interest being credited for the full Jewish day of Shabbat (wouldn’t that be prohibited?).

Q&A including mezuzah check in response to tzarot (can’t hurt but hashkafa?), listening to shiur while dog poop clean up (ok once bagged), changing poskim upon aliya (not necessarily), elul (ask if I’m the same, pick a broad area and then take on measurable kabalos), high end tzedaka auctions (halachically allowable but hashkafa?), politics? (in balance), brshut baalet habayit (harmless [usually] am aratzut), kedusha and baal teshaktzu (only in extremis), black tzitzit (maybe Sephardim can do it), and we treat cohanim as muchzak (not safeik).

Rav Asher Weiss – Hakdama to Stam Yeinam (@ Kollel Nota Besochenu)
Stam yeinam is assur b’hanaah (unlike pot akum), perhaps due to the relationship to yayin nesech (shema yenasech), or it might lead to thinking yayin nesech is mutar b’hanaah, or Chazal made it equivalent to yayin nesech. Also discussed, tinok she’nishba and non-Jews looking at wine.

הגאון רבי נפתלי קפלן, .הרב אליאב מילר., הרב דר. שלמה בלאק.שני בחורים – הצצה לעולמו הפנימי של בן ישיבה – אתגרים ומורכבויות-
The Israeli/Chareidi community all want their sons to be amazing lomdim (in yeshiva) and their daughters to marry one. There are yeshivas for including those who will learn part of the day and other than only Gemara biyun, Roshei yeshiva must know their talmidim. Talmidim ask, “who am I, where am I going”, and want to be heard . We must give talmidim tools to deal with challenges, unconditional parental love, and vision for their future. If talmidim need help they should approach staff and staff should be aler to developments. Everyone should have their eyes open (especially parents). Also discussed two yeshiva guys actual experience in finding yeshivot that work for them.

RIETS – Rav Soloveitchik
Wide ranging interview with R’H Schachter covering R’HS’s background, R’YBS, and current issues. R’HS has a specific view of R’YBS and TUM (really TUP + science to understand issues for psak). Our community is not living up to R’YBS’s vision but it is stronger now as is YU. Rabbis making aliya (my take -how do you evaluate the delta of impact between you and the next rabbi vs the mitzva of yishuv eretz yisrael). Biggest problem lack of kavod for rabbanim.
