RCA UnConvention 2020 – Rav Herschel Schachter: How to Pasken Shailos
A great summary of R’H Schachter’s philosophy of psak.  Short summary – only a bar hachi/raui l’horaah should give psak for self (and others!).
Other points off interest include (per R’HS):  Sanhedrin was more like a kollel, they weren’t often asked for psak; Every chumrah brings kulot with it; Follow your rebbi muvhak if you have one, else follow majority (but that’s hard to define); Mishna Brurah reversed many prior precedents based on newly found manuscripts (R’YBS didn’t like this); Eilu v’eilu means both are talmud torah but not anything goes in psak; Shaat hadchak (which can include avoiding fights) allows you to rely on lenient opinions in rabbinic issues; Being choshesh for all shitot started with later baalei tosfot but blossomed with the mishna brura (R’HS doesn’t like?); sometimes you have to live with existing leniencies; Be intellectually honest.
RCA Un-Convention 2020 Rav JJ & Yocheved Schacter: COPING WITH THE CRISIS
The Schacters provide RCA Rabbis with practical tips plus philosophical approaches to dealing with the corona crisis.  I was a bit surprised that this was the first time in his life that R’JJS had confronted his own mortality.
RCA Un-Convention 2020 Rav Michael Rosensweig FAITH IN A TIME OF PERSONAL AND COMMUNAL CRISIS
Our reaction (especially Rabbinic leaders) to evil is not theodicy but emunah (as defined by R’Lichtenstein – a relationship w/HKB”H).  There can be negative impacts of the monei chataeinu approach of assigning blame, especially to others!  We try to fortify our avodat hashem in good times and bad and surrender to his will.
