  1. I’ll go out on a limb and posit that allowing all beards all the time will not make a difference in chareidi service.

Is the implication of R’ Shafler’s piece that if we were true believers we would not feel any pain from current world events?

  2. The issues with the kashrus of turkey are available elsewhere, so I’ll just add one data point: Rav Dovid Lifshitz’s Thanksgiving turkey was a goose.

  3. “And they wonder why Charedim refuse to serve?”

Seriously? The answer properly is “Because they are willing to seize on any completely isolated incident, out of context (I mean, come on: Many, many IDF soldiers, even secular ones, have beards) as an excuse for what they’re going to do anyway.” A headline like that doesn’t help matters.

The NCSY article was very odd. He says that as director, he was the ombudsman, and then he passed it on to an associate. I thought the whole point of an ombudsman was to be a neutral third party.

  4. Re Stop Playing God-personally that approach has never appealed to me-the baby with Tay Sachs, the person being killed davening, the Holocaust etc can never be explained as being better for the person. Some of us may know Generally Accepted Accounting Principles but no one knows Celestial Accounting Principles.
